Our Radiant G Conferences are statewide, multi-city events designed especially for thousands of girls* in grades 3-8 and the people who care about them. With a community building opening rally, an empowering dance party, and dynamic break-out sessions delivered both by our organization and our network of subject matter experts, girls get to be totally in charge of their day. They walk away inspired by what’s possible and with a new belief in their personal power.

Our theme this year is “Lighting the Way to Empowerment” drawing inspiration from the advocacy of our remarkable speakers and our commitment as an organization to addressing the critical issues affecting girls today. This theme encapsulates our mission to bring these challenges into the spotlight and ignite the power in girls making them feel unstoppable in places of power.

HONORARY CO-CHAIR

Dr. Alma A. Allen
State Representative District 131

  • Dr. Alma A. Allen, currently a distinguished member of the Texas House of Representatives, has had a remarkable career in education spanning over four decades. Before assuming her legislative duties, Dr. Allen served for over ten years on the State Board of Education. Her journey in education commenced as a teacher, progressing through roles as assistant principal and principal at various esteemed institutions. With a tenure of 39 years in the Houston Independent School District, Dr. Allen subsequently transitioned to academia, serving as an Adjunct Professor at Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from Texas Southern University, a Doctorate of Education from the University of Houston, and a certificate in administration and supervision from the same institution. Dr. Allen's contributions to education have garnered her numerous accolades, including Principal of the Year and the Outstanding Alumnus of the University of Houston. She is an esteemed member of several professional organizations. Elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2004, she has been re-elected multiple times. Alongside her husband, Lawrence A. Allen Sr., Dr. Allen takes pride in her family, being the parent of two children and the grandparent of five grandchildren.

Wendy Davis
PPTV Senior Advisor, Former Texas State Senator

  • Wendy Davis is a lawyer, Democratic Party politician, and champion of women’s reproductive rights. She currently serves as a senior advisor to Planned Parenthood Texas Votes. In 2019, Wendy founded Deeds Not Words, a civic engagement organization focused on amplifying the power of young women as a force for change in the political and policy-making landscape on college campuses across Texas. She represented Fort Worth in the Texas Senate for six years and previously served on the Fort Worth City Council. Wendy gained national attention for an hours-long filibuster in the Texas Senate on June 25, 2013, to block legislation that would restrict abortion access.

President, I Am Vanessa Guillen Foundation

  • Mayra Guillen, President & Founder of the I am Vanessa Guillen Foundation, will talk about her advocacy journey in memory of her late sister. She is an advocate for survivors of assault and has successfully advocated on the national stage for stronger laws against sexual violence in the military. She is the older sister of the late Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen, who was a victim of sexual violence at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

Founder and Clinical Director, Happy Soul Counseling and Wellness PLLC

  • Jummy Akinyode is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and has dedicated 12 years to specializing in child and adolescent mental health with focused on supporting black and brown youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. Jummy founded Happy Soul Counseling and Wellness in 2020 with the mission to dispel the myth that wellness is not for everyone by using a down-to-earth approach. She believes that connecting with our bodies allows us to understand our emotions because our bodies tell us things before our mouths can find the words.

  • Girls Empowerment Network’s Radiant G Conference, formerly known as ‘We Are Girls’ and ‘Girls Now,’ is a day-long conference for girls* in grades 3 - 8 and the people who care about them. Our theme this year is “Lighting the Way to Empowerment.”

    Throughout the day, youth get to plan what their day looks like. They take part in an upbeat morning rally with inspirational featured speakers and then choose their own schedule with dynamic breakout sessions, led both by our organization and our network of expert partners, and a fun, empowering dance party. Sessions in both English and Spanish will be available. Girls walk away inspired by what’s possible and with a new belief in their personal power.

  • With recent data showing that nearly 3 in 5 U.S. teen girls feel persistently sad or hopeless, our conferences aim to provide the community and girls the support they need to feel connected, hopeful, and powerful!

  • Approximately 1,000 attendees and 200 volunteers are expected to attend the conference.

    Volunteer positions will be available to high school students and adults who want to be involved and support the event. We have registration spots for 1,600.

  • The Radiant G Conference in Houston will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 9am until 2pm at Hogg Middle School (1100 Merrill St, Houston, TX 77009).

    Doors open at 8am

  • Early bird tickets are $30 until March 1st, 2024. Tickets will be $50 per person thereafter. We expect half of attendees to receive scholarships. You can apply for an individual scholarship by filling out this online form.

    Individuals and organizations may sponsor a ticket for a girl to attend.

  • Lunch, snack, access to featured conference speakers’ presentations, choice of up to three (3) breakout workshops, resource fair, carnival with dance party, and of course, countless memories! Note that there are dozens of workshops for girls and adults.

  • Community members may apply online to present a 45-minute workshop. Topics may include but are not limited to body image, stress management, self-compassion, and healthy relationships. Proposals must be submitted before March 1st, 2024. We intend to send acceptance letters by the end of the month.

  • Spanish-language sessions/Spanish translation services

    Onsite free childcare is available for children who are ages 3+ and who are potty-trained.

    Nursing/changing room will be available.

    A quiet/sensory-friendly room will also be available.

  • No. At least one adult should be present and remain on site throughout the event.

    If you are bringing a large group, we ask that there be one adult present for every 10 youth.
