Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our DEI Mission

Using education, policy, and ongoing evaluation, Girls Empowerment Network is creating a network that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive to empower and celebrate all girls.

DEI Committee History

Girls Empowerment Network’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was founded in 2011. The DEI Committee is made up of volunteer staff and board members committed to furthering the mission of the group. Committee members meet regularly, join specific task forces that create or update organizational policies, and participate in continuing education.

I feel so much pride for where I come from and being able to celebrate that so vibrantly at Girls Empowerment Network makes my heart explode!
— Elena Lopez, Program Coordinator

Consensus Decision Making

We listen to every voice. Girls Empowerment Network utilizes a democratic style decision making process where staff, board members, and youth have a seat at the table.

Community Centric Principles

Influenced by Community Centric Fundraising, Girls Empowerment Network prioritizes practices grounded in equity and social justice and prioritizes communities over transactional relationships.

Measurable Impact

Through annual surveys we asses progress towards our DEI goals and continously evaluate our DEI initiatives. Additionally, we survey program participants which helps us capture demographics of the youth we serve.
