Affirmation Bookmarks

Girls are looking for meaningful ways to connect now more than ever, and that’s where our volunteers come in. For girls in grades 3-12, we want to include an inspiring element of connection in our Radiant G Conference’ s swag bag, during our end-of-semester celebrations, or our empowering summer camps. These bookmarks written by Girls Empowerment Network volunteers aim to inspire, encourage, and uplift girls throughout our community. Affirmation Bookmarks provide volunteers with a unique way of supporting and celebrating girls!

    • The bookmarks should have 8.5 inches x 2.75 inches in dimension.

    • The bookmarks should, at a minimum, have the thickness of cardstock (this is to ensure they are a bit more sturdy/durable than if they were written on notebook or computer paper). However, you don’t have to use cardstock - you can use any similar material that can be found around the house/apartment, i.e. shoeboxes, cardboard boxes, etc.

    • Volunteers are encouraged to write a minimum of 7-10 different bookmarks.

    • We are currently asking for handwritten/hand decorated bookmarks as this provides a personalized and meaningful touch.

    • We recommend taking 1-2 weeks max to complete your bookmarks.

    • We welcome decorations, colors, markers, and stickers! We suggest using a variety of bright and bold colors.

    • Ensure your writing is legible and use language that is accessible to young folks.

    • Use inclusive language in your bookmarks (see our inclusive language section in the FAQs!)

    • Steer away from language about physical attributes.

    • Do not share identifying/personal information on your bookmark.

When you have completed your 7+ bookmarks, you will mail them to:

PO Box 3122, Austin, Texas, 78764 (ATTN: Relatable Role Model Letters). Please include your first and last name in the return address area of the mailing envelope (as well as your company if this is a corporate engagement project) so that we can credit you for your volunteer hours!

Radiant G Circle Weekly Volunteers

Radiant G Circle is Girls Empowerment Network’s weekly recurring school-based program. Each semester, Girls Empowerment Network staff, interns, and volunteers work with girls to increase their self-efficacy, resiliency, and positive connection to peers and role models. As a Radiant G Circle volunteer you will attend weekly sessions at a local school and help facilitate ice breakers and discussions, group activities, and provide assistance to the Girls Empowerment Network program lead on-site.

Advice Archives

Girls everywhere are discovering the many ways they can explore their passions, learn new skills, and gain exposure to a diversity of career opportunities. In an effort to expose youth to as many different career paths as possible, Girls Empowerment Network has introduced a new virtual volunteer opportunity: Advice Archives! This short video series will give youth a glimpse into the lives of relatable role models.

  • Suggested prompts:

    • What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve received?

    • What is the most challenging aspect of your job and what do you enjoy most?

    • What skills do you use most frequently in your profession?

    • When do you feel your most powerful and confident in your work?

    • What coping skills do you use to navigate feelings of overwhelm or stress in your position?

    • What insight would you share with your 14-year-old self?

We’d also love to ensure that the video is as visually engaging and dynamic as possible, so please feel free to include props, show examples of your work, or even share a photo of yourself from elementary, middle, or high school!

Be sure to check out our Volunteer FAQs. This document is full of tips and guidelines!

    Keep in mind:

The target audience for your Advice Archive video will be girls in grades 6-12. Please remember to use language that is inclusive and accessible to someone as young as 11 years old.

Some folks have jobs that youth will be familiar with (like Veterinarian or Dentist). Other volunteers have jobs that require more explanation, like working in Marketing or Finance... remember to keep things related to what girls know. If you’re in Marketing—can you draw correlations between what you do and advertisements they may have seen? If you’re in Finance can you help them think about their own piggy banks at home and draw basic connections to your day-to-day tasks?

Power Chat Volunteers

Power Chats are a structured discussion activity which allows youth and speakers to connect in smaller groups, ask questions, talk about their interests, and share career insight. We have various Power Chats needs throughout the year and across all of our service regions. Power Chat volunteers attend settings such as Girl Connect groups, conferences, events, and summer camp

    • The bookmarks should have 8.5 inches x 2.75 inches in dimension.
