Experience: Sarah brings to Girls Empowerment Network her passion for using data to improve people’s lives. She has worked with children since her very first job at El Buen Samaritano’s childcare center. She worked from 2010 to 2016 at the Schubert Center for Child Studies at Case Western Reserve, building bridges between academic research and policy advocacy to improve children’s well-being. From 2015 to 2018, she conducted a research project funded by the National Science Foundation and Wenner Gren Foundation. Her research examined how Amish communities respond to disability and genetic disorders, with a focus on centers for genetic disorder treatment and research within Amish communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. She returned to her hometown of Austin, Texas and joined GEN as Program Evaluator in 2019. She is a 2019 New Leaders Council Austin fellow. In her free time, she enjoys listening to political and history podcasts, gardening, playing board games with friends, and sharing her love of nature with her two children.

What I love about Girls Empowerment Network: As a women’s college graduate and a lifelong Girl Scout, my life has been deeply impacted by my relationships with female peers and mentors. I have seen the power of female support to empower women to succeed in all areas of their lives. When I first joined Girls Empowerment Network, every single woman I mentioned the organization to had a glowing story about the wonderful impact they have on our city. I am thrilled to work with an organization focused on improving the lives of Texas girls and igniting their power.
