and Volunteer Manager

We are thrilled to announce that we have hired a new Community Relations and Volunteer Manager as of May 1st. Welcome Brittany Yelverton!

What do you like about GENaustin?

I have an overwhelming amount of respect for the work that GENaustin does, and I am thrilled to be able to contribute to an organization dedicated to empowering girls and creating inclusive and supportive programs for young women.  Additionally, I am exceptionally excited to connect Central Texas community members to valuable opportunities for engagement with this incredibly significant and impactful organization.

As the new Community Relations and Volunteer Manager what are the top things you will do to make people feel more involved with GENaustin?

As the Community Relations and Volunteer Manager, I am greatly looking forward to strengthening GENaustin’s relationships with our amazing volunteers and supporters.  I’m thrilled to meet with GENaustin advocates and learn about how we can grow our presence and impact in the Central Texas community, and I’m committed to expanding and increasing opportunities for engagement and involvement with this phenomenal organization.

To cultivate a higher level of volunteer and advocate involvement at GENaustin, I’m hoping to establish several new volunteer roles and opportunities, and I’m excited to find creative and engaging ways to build community among our team of volunteers and supporters.

What are you most looking forward to with this new position at GENaustin?

I am incredibly excited to meet the amazing people who have dedicated their time and energy to furthering the mission of GENaustin!  I am so appreciative of the work that GENaustin supporters do to create a safe, inclusive, engaging and empowering environment for girls and young women, and I am looking forward to contributing to the growth of this organization.

Brittany’s education: B.A. in Communications, English and Women’s/Gender Studies, Elon University, Elon, NC; Master of Arts in Media Studies, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.

Brittany’s Professional Bio: Though originally from Texas, Brittany pursued her undergraduate degree at Elon University in North Carolina where she earned a BA in Communications and English and minored in Women’s/Gender Studies. After graduating from Elon, Brittany was selected as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and earned her graduate degree in Media Studies at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa.  Brittany first began working in the Austin nonprofit community when she served as the AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Specialist at GENaustin in 2011-2012.  Most recently, Brittany served as Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas’ Community Outreach Specialist and was awarded the 2013 Reproductive Equity Award from the Lilith Fund.  Currently, Brittany acts as an advisor for Impact Austin’s Girls Giving Grants program and serves as the Board Vice President for DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Austin).
