Pride Month Doesn't End June 30th: Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community Year-Round

Pride month doesn’t have to end on June 30th. With the 88th Texas Legislative Session and the US Supreme Court presenting relentless attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community, it is more important than ever that we as a community vocally support and stand with the LGBTQIA+ community year-round, not just during June. Whatever you were doing during Pride month to celebrate and uplift the queer community, carry that energy into the other 11 months of the year. Whether that be increasing books read by queer authors, buying from LGBTQIA+ owned businesses, or donating to local organizations that are actively fighting for LGBTQIA+ rights, there are a multitude of ways you can support the LGBTQIA+ community. For queer people, the need for love and support for their community is constant, not just limited to thirty days of the year.

At Girls Empowerment Network, Pride Month and always, we stand in unity with LGBTQIA+ youth and allies. Since our founding in 1996, we have recognized that the diversity of the people who make up our Network is one of the most beautiful things we can offer the community. Our hope is that all youth who come through our programs feel at home to be themselves and find relatable, positive role models who they can look to for inspiration and support, as they envision their futures and pursue their goals. We want you to know that Girls Empowerment Network continues to support and affirm LGBTQIA+ youth in Texas and beyond. We say this loud and clear; we stand with our community in solidarity not only this month but always and we will continue to empower our youth to be heard and seen in places of power!

We understand the importance of lifting voices and organizations that specialize and are experts on LGBTQIA+ youth and their needs. Although the Texas government is attacking LGBTQIA+ youth, there are plenty of incredible organizations that are fighting for these youth and celebrating queer joy throughout Texas. Here are some incredible LGBTQIA+ affirming organizations throughout Texas to check out and support year-round, not just during Pride Month!
