Girls Empowerment Network and Young Women’s Alliance Solidify Exclusive Nonprofit Partnership

Aligned mission brings two of Austin’s leading women’s advocacy organizations together to strengthen their community impact.

Austin, TX – Two of Austin’s leading women’s advocacy organizations, the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) and Young Women’s Alliance (YWA), join forces to form a long-term partnership.

The alliance strengthens efforts to promote female leadership and puts a spotlight on women helping women helping girls.

GEN will become YWA’s first exclusive nonprofit partner and will receive the annual YWA Foundation Community Grant. The sustained funding will provide significant resources for GEN’s continued program development and ability to serve more girls in central Texas.

The collaboration enables GEN and YWA to make a greater impact in central Texas by expanding their networks and providing more services for girls and women in the community. It also creates new leadership opportunities for YWA members and opens mentorship possibilities for the girls GEN supports.

YWA and GEN will continue their longstanding relationship, working together through volunteer efforts, GEN’s annual We Are Girls Conference, and mentoring through the YWA-sponsored POWER CHATS.

“We believe this exclusive partnership will not only give YWA members the chance to bring educational opportunities and professional growth to a younger generation of ambitious women, but will also give GEN members an expanded network of accomplished women to help diversify their career knowledge,” said Mysha Lubke, incoming 2017-18 YWA Board President.

“GEN has had the privilege of working with YWA for more than a decade. During that time, we have dreamed of a permanent partnership which would allow our girls to indefinitely access YWA’s membership of rising stars and female powerhouses of Austin. We are beyond excited about the organizational and financial support YWA will bring to Austin girls, and our alignment around the profound experience of mentorship,” said Julia Cuba Lewis, GEN Executive Director.

About Young Women’s Alliance (YWA)

The Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) is a young professional’s organization that has been a staple of the Austin community for over 20 years.  YWA seeks to empower its members to develop personally and professionally by offering educational programs, access to engaging speakers and community leaders, and by creating a platform for women professionals to connect and network.  Community involvement is likewise at the forefront of YWA. All members are encouraged to volunteer with local nonprofits, emphasizing our belief that strong leaders are created not only through success in their careers, but by giving back to the community that helped them thrive. The YWA Foundation Community Grant is supported in part by the fundraising efforts of YWA members during the annual Foundation Fundraising Campaign (FFC).
