Chaeli Diaz joins the GEN team! Ring the bell!
Chaeli Diaz has joined Girls Empowerment Network as Communications Assistant/UT Student Worker in GEN’s Austin office. We’re so excited that Chaeli has joined our team, and recently interviewed her so that we could share more about her background and passions with our community.
What’s your background?
I’m a a senior at the University of Texas at Austin studying English and Creative Writing. I enjoy reading YA novels, writing short stories, and playing with her dog. I spend a great deal of time at coffee shops, and my favorite coffee is anything super sugary. I like to unwind by watching reruns of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.
What excites you most about your role at GEN?
I cannot wait to be a part of GEN’s mission. I want to help girls embrace who they are and the power within them.
What do you think is one of the biggest challenges girls today are facing?
I think that self esteem in social media is a major challenge for girls today. There are so many more social media platforms now than there have ever been, and girls are faced with countless struggles. Filtering photos, having a certain number of likes, retweets, or friends, and seeing other people’s “picture perfect” lives. Even when I was growing up, I had a Facebook and Instagram, and I felt so left out scrolling through my friends photos, seeing them hang out without me or the hundreds of likes they had. I want girls to know that they are worth so much more than their social media likes.
What’s one word to describe you in middle school?
