Experience: Her experience teaching began as a tutor when she was in middle school. Since then, she have been an educator in various capacities and locations: virtually to children in China, at a school for children/young adults with disabilities in Senegal, at a Houston public school in a low-income neighborhood, at a Houston private international school, and in gardens both in Houston and Richmond, Virginia.

As a full-time teacher, she always veered towards the social-emotional portion of her role. She saw that students’ ability to cope and communicate was key to their academic growth. As the Changemaking Program Coordinator at Girls Empowerment Network, she is wildly excited to commit to the youth in schools and the youth impacted by legal systems as a grassroots facilitator in Houston!

What I love about Girls Empowerment Network: To me Girls Empowerment Network is revolutionary. The organization provides access to the tools that build that self-knowing and efficacy to girls and gender-expansive youth who need it most! Just by doing that, Girls Empowerment Network affirms these girls and gender-expansive youths’ existence in whatever way they sound, look, or act. By doing this work, we also show solidarity to the already-existing and usually over-worked folks at schools like the counselors, the student support managers, and the teachers who continuously show up for Houston youth. I am grateful to embody these core values of self-love, acceptance, and solidarity in community in the work that I do with Girls Empowerment Network.
