Sr. Program Coordinator, Central Texas

Mallory Lehenbauer

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts in English and Southern Studies at The University of Mississippi

  • Master of Arts in Journalism / Integrated Marketing Communications at The University of Mississippi

  • Pursuing Master of Arts in Literature at Texas State University

Experience: Mallory started her career in journalism and marketing but always found herself working with youth—particularly middle and high school girls. Throughout college and graduate school, she worked with girls through a mentoring program. Mallory would meet with these students weekly and took them to summer camp and outdoor backpacking trips in Georgia and Colorado. After receiving her Master's Degree in Journalism in Mississippi, she moved to Austin with her husband and began working in marketing. She also joined the Girl Advocacy League and began volunteering with the Girls Empowerment Network. Beyond her work in marketing and with GIRLS, Mallory also began volunteering at church youth ministry, coaching middle and high school basketball and cross country, and teaching writing to high school and college students. After four years in the marketing field, it soon became clear that her true passion was in writing and working with youth. She now works as a part-time freelance writer/editor and GIRLS program coordinator, while pursuing her Master's in Literature at Texas State University. Mallory is also an organizer for Creative Mornings Austin and still enjoys coaching basketball and cross country. In her free time, she loves to read, run, talk about the American South, cook, and make homemade pizza with her husband, their two welsh corgis, and cat.

What I like about Girls Empowerment Network: I was raised a feminist and always felt empowered by the women in my life, but still wished I had something like the Girls Empowerment Network when I was in middle school! I love how the Girls Empowerment Network is not just about the messaging and idea of empowering girls, but giving girls the tools to create self-efficacy. I feel so honored to be a part of an organization by women created to instill confidence and empowerment into the women of our future.
