Thank you for your interest in presenting at We Are Girls Austin 2019! We Are Girls Austin 2019 will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 9am-3pm and will be taking place at Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Dr. Austin, TX.

Girls Empowerment Network is always looking for fresh, creative, and informative workshops to offer at our We Are Girls Conference. If you are interested in presenting a workshop at We Are Girls please fill out the application HERE. All proposal submissions must be received by Girls Empowerment Network on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. if you have any questions please email claudia@girlsempowermentnetwork.org.

How do I become a Featured Conference Speaker?

Applications are excepted year-round and reviewed in the Spring.

The responsibility of each FCS entails presenting to potentially several hundred 3-8th graders and adults for about 50 min. There are three conferences each school year; one in Austin, TX on Sat. November 16, 2019 and the other two in Houston (Saturday at the end of April) and Dallas, TX on a Saturday in Spring of 2020.

•          Professional resume

•          GIRLS’ mission is to ignite the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their ability to become unstoppable, so please include an essay or proposed presentation description which details how you would inspire girls through your presentation that is molded around our mission. (Maximum 500 words) 

•          2 professional references

•          Requested compensation package

•          Clips of previous speaking engagements.

*Please note a contract will be signed by both parties.

*Compensation is available and may be negotiated by either party prior to contract finalization.

Meet our Featured Conference Speakers!

Aisha Thomas

Aisha Thomas

Aisha Thomas aims to embed inclusion, self-love and motivation into the culture of each young person she encounters, resulting in healthier homes, schools and community climates. With an unstoppable mindset, Aisha overcame challenges including dating violence and sexual assault, to become an honor roll student at her high school. She graduated in the first computer networking program in her district, completed college, and joined the United States Air Force (USAF), where she has served for more than 14 years. She is a member of RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, and speaks at universities, community organizations and churches. She is also a lead Facilitator for the Department of Defense, educating civilian and military members on suicide and interpersonal violence.

April Bowman

April Bowman

Empowering people to reach their full potential is at the core of everything that April Bowman, M.S. does. She has worked in education for over 15 years, impacting more than 20,000 young people across the country. Her experience includes leading after-school programs and summer camps with Parks and Recreation; coaching and consulting with non-profits, schools and foundations; college and career guidance counseling; working in student affairs at Northwestern University; serving as the inaugural Director of Alumni Programs for Uplift Education – the largest charter school in North Texas; and, facilitating trainings on how to talk to about race, racism and equity through the Center for Racial Justice in Education. She currently leads Bold Believers United.

1. All workshops and speaking are done on a volunteer basis.

2. Incomplete proposals will not be considered.

3. Acceptance letters for all proposal forms will be sent out the week of September 23, 2019.

4. For your reference the schedule of the day is as follows but is subject to change:
