The We Are Girls Conferences, produced by Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) are held in Austin and Houston, Texas annually and are designed especially for thousands of 3rd – 8th grade girls and the adults who care about them. With dynamic break-out sessions and an empowering dance party, girls get to be totally in charge of their day. They walk away inspired by what’s possible and with a new belief in their personal power. The 2018-2019 theme is “Ignite Her Power.” Leadership positions are available for high school girls. Tickets cost $30 per person and 50% of attendees receive scholarships.

General information

  • What is We Are Girls?

    The We Are Girls Conferences, produced by Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) are held in Austin and Houston, Texas annually and are designed especially for thousands of 3rd – 8th grade girls and the adults who care about them.   • When is We Are Girls?

    We Are Girls Austin Conference will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018. Doors will open at 8am and check-in is open until 9am. The final workshop will conclude at 3:00pm, with doors closing at 3:30pm. We Are Girls Houston Conference 2019 date is TBD.

  • Where is it?

    We Are Girls Austin will take place at Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Dr., Austin, TX 78759.

  • Who can attend We Are Girls?

    We Are Girls is designed especially for girls in grades 3-8, and the adults that care about them, including but not limited to: parents, educators, and mentors.
  • What time should I arrive?

    Please plan to arrive between 8 and 8:45 am. Doors do not open until 8am. Check-in is from 8am until 8:45am. There will be entertainment in the gym between 8 and 8:45 am.  The day’s festivities will begin promptly at 9am.

  • How does check-in work?

    Everyone will check in at the cafeteria. There will be plenty of signage and volunteers to assist to ensure that you are able to find your way.

    Individuals: When you arrive, you will proceed to the cafeteria, where you will check in by your last name and receive a badge to wear.

    Groups: When you arrive, you will proceed as a group to the group registration area in the cafeteria, where you will check in as a group and receive individual badges to wear.

  • Is food available?

    Yes! Lunch will be served. This year’s lunch provider is TBD. There will also be a snack providedat the beginning of the day, which can be eaten at the attendees leisure. Please note that there will be 2 different lunch times and your assigned lunch will be listed on your badge.

  • Can I follow Girls Empowerment Network on on Twitter or Facebook for We Are Girls updates?

  • What can I do with my younger children or son(s) while I’m at We Are Girls?

    Child care will be available onsite for children over 3 years of age. You can register for daycare when registering for We Are Girls at www.wearegirls.org. Children younger than 3 may attend breakout sessions with their parents if they do not present a distraction to others.
  • Are dads welcome at We Are Girls?

    Yes! Dads are welcome at all of our general parent workshops and the Featured Conference Speaker sessions.
  • Are you offering social work CEUs?

    This year we are not offering CEU’s.

Cost

  • How much does it cost?

    Tickets are $30 for individuals. Early bird pricing is $20 per person and is available through September 15th. Scholarships are available to individuals who are unable to pay. You can find the individual scholarship application here.

    Tickets are $20 early bird rate per person until September 15, tickets are $30 per person thereafter. You can apply for an individual scholarship by visiting www.wearegirls.org. To apply for a large group scholarship (10+ people) please email miranda@girlsempowermentnetwork.org.

PRE-REGISTER for Workshops: Ticketholders whose registrations are paid and completed by October 12 may pre-register for three We Are Girls workshops the week of Monday, October 15 through Friday, October 19. Watch your email on October 14 for a link to pre-register! [Fine print: Available to individuals and groups that are paid and registered at by October 12. Up until October 1st Full Price Pre-Register tickets are $30.   • What does my ticket price include?

    Admission includes lunch, supplies, and a goodie bag, as well as access to all Featured Conference Speaker’s presentations, choice of breakout workshops, resource fair, the GENcarnival and of course countless memories!
  • Do you offer scholarships?

    Yes, if you are interested in a scholarship for less then 6 girls and 4 adults then you can apply here.  If you are interested in a scholarship for a large group (more than 10 people) please email miranda@girlsempowermentnetwork.org.

  • Where can I sponsor or donate to We Are Girls?

Registration

  • How can I sign up?

    On the first page of our website, www.wearegirls.org there is a direct link to registration. If you need further assistance with registration you can reach the We Are Girls team at blair@girlsempowermentnetwork.org or (512)808-4044, ext. 106.
  • I registered. Do I need a confirmation number or a printable ticket?

    No. At the event you will check in by last name.

  • I registered, but now it turns out I can’t come anymore. Can I get a refund?

    All ticket sales are final. However, you can request that your registration be changed to another person’s name or turned into a scholarship to give another girl the opportunity to attend by calling (512)808-4044, ext. 106 or emailing blair@girlsempowermentnetwork.org.
  • How does check-in work?

    Individuals: When you arrive, you will proceed to the cafeteria, where you will check in by your last name and receive a badge to wear.

    Groups: when you arrive, you will proceed as a group to the Large Group Registration area in the cafeteria, where you will check in as a group and receive badges to wear.

  • I want to bring a large group (10+ people.) What do I do?

    Give us a shout at miranda@girlsempowermentnetwork.org for more information about large group registration. It’s super easy and we are here to assist you every step of the way.

Speakers and Workshops

  • What will happen at We Are Girls?

    Day of Schedule Houston, 2018
    • 9-9:45am- Opening rally
    • 9:45-10:15- Check out the resource tables!
    • 10:15-11:15am- Session 1
    • 11:30-12:30pm- Lunch A/Session 2A/GENcarnival
    • 12:45-1:45pm- Lunch B/ Session 2B/ GENcarnival
    • 2:00-3:00pm- Session 3

    This year, to accommodate our growth, we are having two lunches. You will see your lunch assignment on your badge when you check in. Please attend the lunch you are assigned. Sessions 2A and 2B are exactly the same, so you won’t miss anything by attending your assigned lunch time.

  • Why is lunch an hour?

    Lunch has to be an hour because all the breakout sessions are an hour. But have no fear, this year something we are SO excited about is during both lunches we are going to have entertainment in the gym which will include music, dancing, games, crafts and loads of other goodies. So after eating your delicious lunch you can go up to the gym and have loads of fun.
  • Who is speaking at We Are Girls?

    Our Featured Conference Speakers for We Are Girls Austin are Jodi Bondi Norgaard-Speaker, Consultant and Founder of Go! Go! Sports Girls and Shanterra McBride, Author, Educator and Founder of Marvelous University. You can find their bios at www.wearegirls.org.

    In addition we have dozens of breakout sessions for girls in grade 3-8 and the adults attending. Check back for a finalized workshop presenter list in early October.

  • I want to attend workshops with my daughter or younger/older sister. Are these available?

    Yes, absolutely! The Featured Conference Speakers are always all ages. As for our smaller workshops, we design our schedule to include some topics for certain aged groups only, some for parents and educators only, and some for mixed age groups. We ask that you respect the presenters’ wishes when a workshop has a limited age range and/or is specific to parents or girls. There will be plenty of workshop options to attend with your daughter or sister.
  • Can I reserve a spot in a workshop?

    Yes you can!!!

Parking and Travel

  • Where do I park at We Are Girls?

    Anderson High School has plenty of on site parking available. Keep an eye out for parking signage and parking volunteers offering directional support.

  • What transportation is available to We Are Girls?

    Visit www.capmetro.org to get see the Houston bus schedule and plan your route to We Are Girls Houston.

    Schools are also able to reserve a bus through their districts transportation office for a very affordable rate. Please inquire through your district’s directly.

Being a Part of We Are Girls

  • Can I present a workshop at We Are Girls Houston?

    Applications for workshops are now closed. Please check back in June 2019 to apply to present a workshop at We Are Girls Austin.

  • Can I be a Featured Conference Speaker?

    Everyone is invited to apply to be a FCS. If you think you have what it takes please email blair@girlsempowermentnentwork.org. We will start accepting inquiries in January 2019.

  • Can girls volunteer for We Are Girls?

    Yes they can, however they must be in high school in order to volunteer. Volunteer registration can be found at www.wagaustinvolunteers.eventbrite.com. Volunteer registration opens on August 1st.

  • Does We Are Girls have exhibitor space open? Ad space?

    Yes! To inquire about purchasing ad space in our program or exhibitor space at our resource fair please email blair@girlsempowermentnetwork.org or call (512)808-4044, ext. 106. however please note that nothing is permitted to be sold at We Are Girls.

  • Can adults volunteer for We Are Girls?

    Yes! We need LOTS of help with We Are Girls. You can register to volunteer for We Are Girls Austin at www.wagvolunteersaustin.eventbrite.com.

  • How can I help spread the word about We Are Girls?
