Experience: Emily began working with girls in 2014 when she moved to Texas and was the case manager for a nonprofit that worked with pregnant teens. Soon, she realized her passion for working with young people and pursued a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Throughout graduate school, Emily worked with girls, providing individual and group counseling to elementary-aged students with CapCityKids, and co-facilitating a middle school girls group with GEN. Emily is committed to helping girls find and develop confidence, and believes wholeheartedly in Queen Bey’s motto that girls run the world.

What I love about GEN: GEN’s programs are especially powerful because they allow girls to develop meaningful and supportive relationships with their peers and to learn from one another, providing a space where girls are not left alone to tackle the unique challenges of girlhood. At the core of GEN’s work is the understanding that when a girl believes in herself, she has the building blocks to develop and accomplish goals and and to lead a joyful life. To get to be a part of such a critical time in girls’ lives is incredibly exciting and humbling.
